ACTINOLITE
Heath Canyon Deposit, Wrightwood, San Gabriel Mountains, San Bernardino County, California

While collecting at this well-known Southern California locality has been limited recently by local property owners and  government regulations, these highly desirable Actinolite specimens were collected pre-2000 before the collecting sites around Wrightwood were closed to mineral collecting.  Specimens consist of
pure intergrown, coarsely crystalline-bladed, parallel-growth and radiating groups of
medium to dark green Actinolite without rock matrix.  Several of the specimens are associated with pale greenish-white masses of Talc.  Items 2982 and  2983 are particularly attractive, display worthy,  large cabinet size specimens with rich amounts of the associated pale greenish-white Talc.   Actinolite is a member of the Amphibole supergroup with the chemical composition:  ☐{Ca2}{Mg4.5-2.5Fe0.5-2.5}(Si8O22)(OH)2

Mary Kathleen Mine, Mt Isa Cloncurry Area, Queensland, Australia

This locality produces examples of one of the asbestiform minerals that occasionally form euhedral, prismatic crystals.   On this specimen, pale smoky gray-white rhombohedral cleavages of Calcite are attached to a large, dark greenish-black, non-terminated Actinolite crystal prism.  The Actinolite is 3 1/8 long X 1 1/8 wide X 1/2 thick .  The Calcite is not fluorescent.

Overall specimen size:  3 1/8 X 1 3/8 across X up to 7/8 thick
Order Item No. 2394
Price:  $70.00

NOTES:
All specimens are natural, not processed in any way from their original form.
